Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus Overview

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus is a Bangladeshi social entrepreneur, banker, economist, and civil society leader who is best known for pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance. He founded the Grameen Bank in 1983, which provides small loans to the impoverished without requiring collateral. His innovative approach has helped lift millions of people out of poverty and has inspired similar microfinance initiatives worldwide.

Dr. Yunus was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006, along with Grameen Bank, in recognition of their efforts to create economic and social development from below. He has also received numerous other accolades, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in the United States and the Congressional Gold Medal.

In addition to his work in microfinance, Dr. Yunus is also an advocate for social business, a concept he promotes as a sustainable model to address social issues. He has authored several books, including Banker to the Poor and Building Social Business.
